Thanks for links Jono, great help to those of us without easy access. Azed on the gentler side, I thought.

Heads up that 12a has two possible spellings. Just so you know....

That's true Clarkgwent.

Chambers gives one as a UK spelling (the one used in this puzzle that matches up with 5d) and the other a US spelling.

Not that I'd have known the difference without looking them up:-)

Nice to see the rhyming pair.

Not impressed by the homophone clue! Does anyone pronounce it like that?

Cannot parse 10a, Def is clear and I can see where first to letters come from, final five are a write-in given the crossers but I cannot see the wordplay.

COD 17d, simply because I wrote it in then managed to take an age to parse it as I went down the wrong rabbit hole, probably because I have recently watched the excellent Sentimental Value!

Thanks Everyman

Hi Just solve,

10a -key to the wordplay is "ultimately", then just looks at every word that follows. New word to me, at least on the abbreviated form in which it appears here.

Re 10a: All seven letters are indicated in the clue. I'm far from convinced the answer is a legitimate word, though!
COD 14a by a country mile.

Hi Phil,

I have similar misgivings about 10a but, after a quick Google search, I'm informed it's a Scottish informal noun referring to the events of 2014.

That said, I can't find it in any of the 3 dictionaries in which I looked!

... it's a shame that Malone doesn't do the Everyman, as I feel sure she could enlighten us.

Thank you, Jono. This is the now only way I can access this twenty year Sunday morning tradition.
