Yes, Brendan, 11 is what all musicians do on first encountering a piece of music, not just in exams, so it's a straight definition albeit with a misdirecting ambiguity of s ore. But where's the other wordplay?

Thanks re 27, I got the answer but wasn't parsing it right!

Oops: for "s ore" read "score"!

I was also not on Imogen’s wavelength this weekend - surfaces misdirected me on several occasions! - but after several pickups and put downs managed to get in done. Very pleased with myself but also not surprised that so many found it on the easy side.

Thanks to the forum for the "capitals" parsing. And thanks to Imogen for providing more hours of entertainment than intended.

I realise most folks will have moved on by now, but I don't get here until Thursday (when I've given up).

Re the prize. I'd never managed to even complete the prize, so I added it to my retirement bucket list. After a years warm up on the quick cryptic I finally managed one of the easy ones. then I'm on a streak and on my third attempt I won.

Frankly, I was a little deflated by that, but I'm back now.

I had assumed it was "bad form" to keep entering but maybe that's not the case. That's assuming I ever complete another one. Ten weeks now without a win.
