Brendan,

10a
8-letter word for dummy (think crying baby), replace first 4 with a 4-letter word for trial.

That's how far I have gone. Unfortunately I am unable to link that to the wordplay. :-(

Ilippu, do you remember a coupplle of weeks ago you parsed a clue and I responded with "take a bow ilippu, that is brilliant - well done mate"?

Well, at the risk of sounding repetitive ....

Illiquid,
The first three letters of your word for dummy when reversed mean Trump. You have the rest.

Ilippu, the first 4 letters are "trial" and they replace the a 3 letter word for "trump" reversed/'rejected'

Well done, ilippu. Your parsing for 10 is perfect IMO. Rather intricate construction by Vlad! I also liked the "Herb Alpert" in 25, come to think of it.

Ok. That's what it is, I think.

4-letter word for 'trial' replaces first 3 letters (when reversed and read as verb) of the 8-letter dummy.

Brendan,

Thanks, at the risk of sounding repetitive, you are very kind ...

I don't know why I thought 4 letters are to be replaced :-(.

Shall we say, excellent warm-up for Genius on Sunday!

My final two to parse were 3 and 16, both quite neat. Less keen on 5a which could do with an indication of cant and quite a specific uk reference if I’m reading it correctly.

Ilippu, you must be in the US if you get the Genius on a Sunday. See you then!
