Roger, I did the same thing on 6d! Amended it upon taking a second look.

I "did" the play at school, so I had no problem with the spelling.

Chambers only as the word with an extra -al on the end.

Exactly, Chris. That was the only point I was making@11. Collins does have it though.

It's a strange omission in Chambers. It's definitely a word!

Indeed. OED and ODE both confirm.

After what has been a horrendous few days in the SW with more to come I managed to get what seemed to be the only train out of Exeter going East today.

I'm now sat in a pub in Old Street trying to nail this but the NE has me beat. I love Brockwell but he's got me on the ropes here.

Is the Home Counties abbreviation in 17a the usual one. That wasn't clear. Plus where do i even start with 6d? Any hints.

6d parsing is straightforward, but depends on Shakespeare GK. It's a 6-letter character from MND with the final letter dropped, plus the standard 3-letter crossword "jerk". The first 6 letters are thematic.

Hi Rocky, welcome to London.
Yes, for the first two letters of 17a.
6d start with Shakespearean lovers, there aren’t actually too many, and this one is female.

17: Home Counties is the usual two letters. "Member" is extremely Pauline.

Thank you all. That got me over the line. As always a cracking puzzle from Brockwell.

7a was my FOI. Off to a good start in the NW. 6d my last which I would have struggled without your help.

COD with Brockwell always hard to pick but I think 13a gets it.

I'm having real problems posting on the forum the last few weeks. I don't know why. It doesn't seem to believe I'm not a robot and doesn't go anywhere when I hit Add Post.

Now to enjoy the sights of Shoreditch before the Emirates tomorrow.
