it's the NW corner which is stumping me! Any clues would be gratefully accepted .... Does 2d start with a C?

Yes, 2d starts with C.
Parses as (1,1) inside 6. The term for "Broadcaster" is not the first that comes to mind...

Jono, in 22a the full thematic (two words 4, 6) is well-known outdoor (cold weather) gear, but often referred to by a different related term. I own a pair. See for instance https://tinyurl.com/muka2axn

The painter was totally unknown to me and I had to resort to a search engine query.

Thanks, jono. I didn't know that...probably took 22a as thematic for the wrong reason!

In the light of what jono said @11 about 6d, I now wonder whether, as I originally thought, Brockwell intended it to be thematic or thematic-adjacent.
Any thoughts?

Odd that 6d isn't in Chambers - probably a mistake. I'm sure that it is intended to be (partially) thematic.
