As far as I can see, Chambers doesn’t support 6d, but Collins comes to the rescue.

Hints for 22a would be appreciated.

22a - def is first two words. Parses as 2,1 within 3.

Yes, I too was amused by the rudeness when the penny dropped. I’d not heard of the solution word, which didn’t help.

Thanks for this. I had always lazily assumed that 6d and the noun which can precede 16d were related, whereas in fact, as I have learned after reading your post, their respective derivations are quite different!

I'm finding this the hardest Guardian puzzle for ages. Nothing in the NE and only a few in the SE.

Just to check, does 22a start with M? The hint above hasn't registered with me yet!

OK, I got 23d and hence 22a. Onward and upward - specifically to the NE!

My experience similar to Darla’s. Top half and SW corner went in relatively smoothly but held up in SE. Picked up on the theme about half way. Might have been sooner but my knowledge of Shakespeare is better than that of Disney apparently.

Finished. Several things I hadn't heard of - 4d, 17a, most of 5d.

FOI was 16d, which led me to a wrong answer for 20a that is equally valid apart from the last crosser!

Lots to like. I think I'll pick 26a as favourite,
