Thanks, prospero. I'm not happy with 29a but accept that it just about works.

I've since found all 5 Across words and 4 (and possibly a 5th) of the Down words. Overall, a very clever and satisfying puzzle.

I have everything bar the "Across clues contain five words and down clues five more which hint at who was responsible".

I've been working on the assumption that they cryptically give the creators of 14d,16d, perhaps with the 5 acroos giving the first word and the 5 down the second - am I barking up the wrong tree?

Hi Bren, I admit to not having fully found all ten, but yes, there are words in the clues which define or are examples of each of those two words.

I found 4 words (W) in the acrosses which can form a phrase of the form "X W" where X is the first word of the creators' name.

Then there is one across and 5 down words W that can form a phrase "W Y" where Y is the second word in the name.

I don't know if that is what the setter has in mind but it is perfectly defensible. ie all phrases are in Chambers or Wikipedia

Got it. I was going about it the wrong way, thinking each of the 10 words led to a particular part of the name. For instance, 'island' could give part of the second word etc.

Same here Bren, I’m one short in the down clues.

Upon consultation with a UK correspondent, there is another across that fits with the first word (never heard of it over here) so that does give 5 acrosses that work. However there is still an across word that can fit with second word!

It seems that there's quite a lot of justification online for a blue .... although it's not in Chambers so don't know whether that excludes it?

This is odd - I've just tried to complete the puzzle online for submission but it won't let me type anything in the space following Nine words: I even tried to copy and past the title but, again, it remains blank.

Has anyone else had this problem?
