Grum, I think “Seat for one” needs to be read one. Note the capital S.

…sorry, that should have said “be read as one”. In other words “Seat for example”.

It’s is confusing, but the phrase is all together as “Seat for one”, as in it’s an example of… there is a fair amount of discussion about it much higher up in here.

Snow white, I parsed 15 as the Spooner being a homophone of two three letter words. Someone waiting on a horse to come in, like how someone might like to spend their afternoons.

I thought I posted yesterday but I seem to have failed.

Finished bur for 31a. I know no cartoon birds who might fit. I can see the first 4 letters as "adult", and either the 3 or the whole thing could be a type of bird, but basically I don't get it.

Foi: 12a
Loi: 31
Cod: well, 14 is rather clever.

31: definition is a bird. First four letters as "adult" is a tricky misdirection. In fact, "judge" and "adult" are single letters inside the 5-letter title of an Aussie cartoon series.

I had no idea of the cartoon series and didn't bother to look it up. Once I saw the misdirection I wrote in the solution (with the 2 single letters that wasn't too hard) and assumed the cartoon was GK I lacked.

Although "first four letters as 'adult'" is a misdirection with respect to parsing, it *does* yield the correct first word of the solution!
