So this was an odd one. Got 1a then 12a straight away then really struggled for a while. But with each solve of the long clues it got a bit easier.

Like Brendan et al never heard the term bromide before for that and a few are left to parse namely 19a 18d and 30a.

FOI 1a. LOI 30a. COD I think 16a.

Thanks to Fed. I enjoyed this.

Great crossword, some straightforward clues to lure you in and then some I found gnarly (e.g. 18, 19, 22).

Hi everyone

You won't be surprised that I found much of this crossword very difficult. I've finished but have at least half unparsed (too many to list here). I only got them from the definitions. I started relatively well at 2.30pm, but was cold and put the fire on which sent me to sleep! I thought lots of the words in the wordplay were obscure meanings. I didn't know the cartoon character. I might have to avoid Fed in future.

I always find the first and second weeks in December very stressful as I've too much to do for Christmas. I used to manage it when I was working full time, but am now finding it increasingly difficult. I have at least packed up and posted all my parcels, just my cards to write and post and decorations to put up.

FOI 12ac, LOI 2d after struggling over the bottom of the grid, COD 16ac, though I can't work ut the word play.

Off to do my ironing now

I was a bit surpised that 16 was plural, but I suppose that they needed periodic replacement.

That's actually a very good point Chris. But I suppose you get around it by the fact that there are countless depictions and hence it can be plural.
