Chris, 9d was my LOI as well. Never read it or saw the film. I mean once I discovered it wasn't about math(s) what was the point. 😂

I read the book but had forgotten the name. Got it from parsing but had to google to verify.

DRIVER is a much more obvious second word. In, fact, I'm not sure why the correct one is clued.

I meant "how" rather than "why".

All done, chipped away between chores.

Ended up reverse-engineering 3D from 13A, 16A and 23A!

Got in a tangle in SE corner trying to clever with 26A, which set me off in the wrong direction on loads of stuff in that corner.

FOI: 26A, wrongly
LOI: 26A, correctly

COD: I did like 13A very clever

Apologies to Brockwell, but I just don't get the way you think. I wasn't going to attempt it, but my hip pain has forced me to sit down.

I'm amazed I got most of the north west corner. I even got tht the Arsenal clue. I've got 3d, but can't see how it is a key to the theme words yet. I need to solve more. I haven't actually read all the clues yet. Thanks Brendan for recommending the anagrams. Though I haven't found all of them including the one for 13ac

I had a break to do some ironing and will get back to the crossword soon. I may be back for some hints later.

I will have to look up Lady Penelope i guess.
