An odd mix today of easy, obscure and quite hard. Rattled through it nonetheless. But how does 18 work? I have the answer but can’t see why.

18 is definition (read the second word as “re-presented”) followed by an example of kind

Hi adea
Look at "genuine class" and "Alec Guinness". I've seen this trick before.

That [answer] appeared in an episode of the Simpsons in 1994 where Lisa is trying to prove her cleverness to a rival at school.
Arachne also uses it in 27,478.
Nice to be reminded of it.

Thanks for the info on this forum. Always appreciated as I can rarely complete a Prize without the hints! And would definitely not have seen all those theme words.

Any help with my last one in 16a would be appreciated.

Unlike illippu 1a was my last one solved. Tolkien spelt the rabbit with an e perhaps? 12a took a while but I googled the obvious and learnt something new. Didn't help that I read 24a instead of 24d for the 2d clue thus scuppering the right answer that I already had. Thanks to Brockwell. Enjoy the Carob Beans.
