They're all correct. Post 45 is helpful for the top lefthand corner.

This subject is a rich lode to mine. Listener 4179 uses the same theme, but treats it quite differently. There may be others.

Nearly there. I just need to solve 15 across and 22 down to finish this one off. Even though I cannot solve 15 across (despite the hint at post 48) , I am fairly certain I know the entry. No idea how 22 down works. Any hints would be appreciated.

15 def is first word, plus the wordplay, which is an unusual two letter word for water + three letter “run hot”, all after one letter “opening of tap”

22 is &lit, an anagram (melting) of the indicated letters

I myself cannot find the CE entry for 38ac - is it a proper noun?

Louweed, re 38a. It's not a proper noun. The 3 letters retained from the original answer are in positions 1,3 6 in the entry.

Thanks mattrom, I have figured it out now - the problem was I missed a bar, so I was looking for a seven letter word ending in i. Whoops

Thanks Louweed (66). Both sorted now, which only leaves the dilemma of how to complete 22 down. This has been referred to earlier in this thread, but I don't think any consensus was reached. One can only hope that either entry would be accepted.

fwiw I went with the E, but attached a note pointing out that I thought there were two possible and equally satisfactory options. I hope they’ll accept either, as I can’t see any reason to favour one.

Otherwise delightful puzzle this week, interesting mechanic, a few slightly edgy clues but also a few very clever ones. I did find the unmarked &lits a bit awkward. Of all the recent puzzles, this one has involved the most rubbing out (not rubric-required blanking as some recent puzzles have had us doing, but because I’d gone wrong!). I agree with lvb@13 — the rubric says “a word in the definition”, but 39a and especially 13a would like to suggest otherwise! But mainly a very enjoyable solve throughout. Thanks Mozart.

I have one loose end, which is 8d “Approached evidently poor Arab”. I have a grid entry I’m happy with but cannot unpack the clue at all somehow. If anyone can give me a nudge for my satisfaction it would be much appreciated.
