Hi - I get the spoonerism principle, but can someone please explain where the second (6 letter) element of the solution comes from (the ‘real’ word, not the ‘spoonered’ corruption? It seems to bear no relation to the clue. Thanks.

PercyBass the whole of 10a means attacked. Think Lady Thatcher. Only the spoonerism is 4 and 6. The 6 letter word means bewitched (fell). The 4 letter one is the word for group.

The undergarment referenced in 26 was much more popular in the 70s and 80s than it is today. I still have one from way back then.

Helen - the fact that Bren and myself know more about 26 might put it in the lingerie section 😁

Bren - good luck with the op.

Thanks Bowergirl. It was the second (six letter) part of the solution that baffled me - and still does to be honest. I’ve never seen the usual (derogatory) 3 letter noun used as a verb meaning fell. I live and learn!

I didn't parse it like bowergirl. I had "group" (4 letters) "fell" (6 letters, - drooped), Spoonerised. I admit the "drooped" is a bit loose.
