Swashbuckling author - 5 letters, with the article expressed, gives the last 4 letters

Thanks for the help here. I’m new to doing cryptic crosswords and this weekly forum is exactly what I need! It’s very reassuring to see the one I’m stuck on is also what others found hard. And your gentle clues are just perfection. In this case 5d was the final piece of the puzzle for me. But for the past few weeks this forum has been a wonderful discovery that has got me across the line and loving cryptic crosswords!

Thanks to Everyman for a fun puzzle.

COD: Has to be 19d. I Immediately thought of the most likely synonym for the definition which the crossers quickly confirmed - all this took about 1 minute. I then spent the next half-hour trying to parse the actual thing! Still, made the PDM all the more satisfactory:-)

Morning all,
Good fun I thought. We’ve had King Edward in clues two days running, with somewhat different treatments.

23a is quite clever, and nice to see the inclusion of “non-standardly”. I didn’t realise that the origin of the name in 23a is quite so heavily disputed.

And we seem to be back to normal now with the Azed Competition followed by the Genius on first Sunday/Monday of the month.

FOI: 9a. LOI: 10a. COD: 23a and enjoyed 15 a & 25a too.
Found the NE more challenging but was pleased to complete this without writing anything down or looking up anything. Mind you, I have been doing Everyman for about twenty five years so I should be getting the hang of it by now!
Thank you Everyman.
