Sorry for the obscurity but I understand that Bharat prefers hints to begin with. My own solution is rather the opposite in sense and could of course be entirely wrong

The usual crossword symbols for one and left inside a 3-letter verb meaning (at a pinch) to match that contains 1 letter from moments
