I’ve never seen it with a double o at the start. Which is why I went with omphaloid for “in the navel”. But on reflection I think light rings are meant to be halos, so I think oom-p-halos is the correct parsing. Unfortunately it seems to lead to a non-existent word

This one seems to be a bit of a mish-mash, hash! My big (Shorter Oxford English Dictionary) says Omphalos means 1. a boss on a shield, 2. a stone in the themple...and 3, figuratively a central point. The 'navel' doesn't get a mention other than in words beginning Omphalo (-omphalitis, omphalocele etc) and in Omphaloid, resembling the navel. Other than that, of course, we have the word here beginning Oom...

Thanks quisling, jono and swarbrules. I would have never got the word without your help despite having MOO reversed as OOM. But from the dictionary I could not get anyword starting with OOM except Oomycetes.
