Please help me in parsing / solving this cryptic clue -
"Fragrance stain not about to charm date (10)"

Definition is fragrance. A word for stain, disgrace dropping a single letter for about, then a word for charm and abbreviation for date

It might help to know the word for charm is a verb

Thanks Quisling for the help. Sandalwood gives fragrance but is it fragrance? Did not know it.

I had the same thought, but on checking, while Chambers and Collins reference only the wood and the oil produced from it, the ODE also suggests that it can be the “perfume” so derived.

Lampooned, ridiculed? It could be P, prince, inside an anagram of 'a model on'...
