Is BIR a word (or acronym)? I won't say where I have it, but everything else I have seems correct.

I am really struggling with this one. I have a range of answers but am baffled about how to enter them in the grid. There seem to be so many permutations that I feel that I am missing something obvious. Can anyone help me to progress?

Thanks Quisling, I'll have another think. I have the 12 letters leading to the subtitle, but still flummoxed by F2 and F4. Everything else seems OK at the moment.

Catkin, a couple of observations. First, the grid has 180 degree symmetry. So every time you put in one bar, you can enter another as its reflection. Second, there are no two letter words in the grid. So if you see two cells together, as in the four top left cells, you can put bars between them.

After that you will need to start by using the left hand and right hand pairs of columns, as you know which answers fill them, and try to make words. Work on the assumption that the left and right columns are 6,6 until proven impossible.

After that, you might try and see if you can make eight letter words across. It’s not easy, and there are many obscure words. But I found it a fun challenge

Gitto, there was discussion of F4 before. It seems that some can find it in the app, some can’t, but when you said you were hoping it was slang for a longer word, it is listed as informal in Chambers, so I think you have it. F2 is an odd past tense of a word you wouldn’t consider a verb

Thanks again Quisling. I have 2 words beginning with P and C for those, but the P isn't in my Chambers and the word play for the C seems a little dodgy to me. I have sorted the BIR thing, but there is something definitely amiss in my SW corner.
