6d - I'm also a tad puzzled by the MAGA enthusiasts" references - the only thing I can think of is the answer is split 1,4 with the 4 meaning "low in morals, reprehensible, vile" which would mean The Observer is well and truly nailing its political colours to the mast.

There could, of course, be an entirely different explanation?

6d - I broke it down as 1, 4 as well.

MAGA(ts) - as they are derisively called - is the 4 of the current Republican Party.

Found this hard. Can’t parse 24 + 25.

COD - 19

25 is a word for "masterclass" with 1st and last letters ("skin") removed.

24 is a reversal of a word for "throws" ("throws up") with "wife" removed.

I didn’t get the 3-2-1 in 28a either, nor the first part of 22d, but I think MAGA fans are sometimes referred to as Trump’s core voters or ….
