What a contrast from last Saturday! And I’m not talking about quality, just difficulty. I’m happy with both Enigmatist and Brummie (and needed an early night tonight anyway). A very enjoyable solve with a variety of ruses that nevertheless yielded gently to lateral thinking.
FOI 5, LOI 22.
COD? Tricky, but I liked 11, 14 and 24.
Thanks, Brummie!

Took a preliminary shufti. Nothing. Not a clue.

Had a strong black coffee and went back to it, Everything fell into place,

Really enjoyed it.

Hi Brendan

Off topic:
I had EVANS as George Eliot's name. 225 confirms it.
What was the fuss about 2 Rs?

Thanks to Brummie.
Somewhat gentle but fun.
FOI 1, LOI 11.
Too lazy to pick COD, but liked 5d, 11, 15, 22, 24 and 19.

Hi ilippu,
The fuss was about what “‘Arry” was doing in the clue. I am still of the view that it was a second definition by example, referring to the newspaper editor Harold (known generally as Harry) Evans.

(The other view put forward was I think that it was a Cockney reference to Mary. But I can’t see that rhwt works - first because there is no explanation for the double r, and secondly because a cockney would not drop the initial m)

Thanks rogissimo.
I saw your posts too, and the link to Harry Evans.
Maybe you are right.
Once I got George Eliot, I avoided over-thinking it :-).
As the blogger did.
With Enigmatist getting the answer is good. Perfecting it is too much work.
Thanks again.

Thanks ilippu. That’s interesting about the blogger. On 225?
