8a - letters 4,5,6 and 7 can mean "agreed" and that's surrounded by 4 letter "rent" but it's rotating so the start is at the end and rest begin the answer.

15a - 1 letter "time" goes inside/'to feed' 3 letter "monkey" then finally 3 letter "one" - definition is "still"

Rog, all I meant is that if you say the word for "surprise" but drop the H you get a homophone of the answer.

Now that this discussion has confirmed that I've actually got 25a right, I agree that the 'Arry seems superfluous - why is it needed?

Absolutely brutal. I got six clues before needing to start looking up answers. This setter brings me back down to earth hard whenever I start feeling my oats.

the reference to Trump is just to let you know the answer is an American term.

I took it as 'ear = sounds like, then 'Arry = cockney dropping aitches, then stretching my brain to Mary Ann Evans for Eliot - don't know if that is what was intended ?

Chris - yes sorry - started typing and knew what I was going to say without giving too much away - but was interrupted by question from a family member who couldn't wait for an answer to their problem - so I ended up finishing my post distractedly and gave too much away - sorry again !
