is there a reason for misspelling of E in 3a, or is it just a grauniadism?

Hi Prospero, Unless it's a subtle part of the overall masterplan of this thing (which still eludes me), I suspect it's just The Guardian being Het Grauniad as usual. Certainly doesn't seem to have any bearing on my semi-confident answer for 3d...

Are 20a and 4d the same word?

thanks jono - but I can't see that 20/4 makes a sensible 10-letter word, though I've been playing with that answer all day ... only have 2d to complete now. And I have all 6+1 names. But if the redacted words are supposed to make a quotation, I have no idea how to make a start on it.

Prospero - I took 20/4 to be one of the two normal clues that should be “thematically modified before entry”. The other is, I think, 12a.
Like you, much of the redaction escapes me so I may be wrong.

20/4 LOI, based on that. I think numeration of 10 is misleading.

That said, I have not parsed all entries.

Btw, I had to enter one normal solution backwards to accommodate the crossers....I didn't have to change the second requiring change - if there is one...

For these reasons, feels incomplete.

That changed one, I rationalized as view from other side.
