Cruncher - I agree, can't see the justification for her, think that's verging on the too 'creative', as you sympathetically put it.

Raggedy - I found the quote from the bottom half of the grid. if you Google a couple of the related words that appear with the book the quote should pop out pretty quickly.

Duplicate Thread by Earmaniac

Am late to this, have several answers,if it's not giving too much away, is the rearranged grid the same size as the original, does the grid need cutting,?

Answer by Smellyharry

The original grid has 22 empty cells. The revised grid has zero empty cells. Hopefully that tells you all you need to know.

Re: ‘her’ - a reasonable rule of thumb is that it’s fine if it’s in Bradford’s (which it is).

Thanks Mack (@55): I will pursue that line of thought.

It took a while for the penny to drop but when the moment came and everything fell into place it was very satisfying. Many thanks to phi.

Thanks Smellyharry, I see it now and the title makes sense, Just have to rearrange the grid to finish off. And will definitely, probably, possibly, go back and read the book. Maybe :)

I'm a bit late to the party but this was ultimately a very rewarding solve in my opinion, thanks Phi.

I thought the overall construction and endgame were very nice. I hit several impasses but eventually got enough checking to unblock myself. I must admit I wasn't generally a fan of the clueing. There were lots of redundant words and really quite (overly?) fanciful constructs. I think as someone else pointed out the prominence of this was exacerbated by the carte blanche grid & lack of symmetry.

I do however look much more fondly on this puzzle than the thematic work! Thanks Phi.

Thanks again Mack for your helpful hint at post 55. All done now, although it required very careful reading of the preamble to ensure that my final grid complied with the requirements.

It seems to me there isn’t a unique final grid. I can make the thematic rearrangement to each section in more than one way, and still eliminate the empty cells and create the quotation. Did I
miss something?

Hi graham9perkins
I think there is only one final grid that avoids doing damage either to the original across or down solutions.
