I’m convinced there is something thematic going on. There usually is with Brendan. I see a lot of repeated letter patterns. Can’t quite 9 it though…

I think you're right Jono but I can't see it either.

I've just scrolled down a bit further and 'to meet one's Waterlloo' means "to be finally and decisively beaten"

OK, you have convinced me on Waterloo.
There are lots of words with repeated vowels, especially As.
I've just realised that I haven't parsed 16d either. Not seeing the "fail".

Chris, it's 4 letter "fail to include" inside 2 'times'

Chris, fail is a four letter word with one of the times inserted and one before it.

Sorry, I don't know what's wrong with me today.

The 4 letter "fail to include" goes after 1 time and is "covering" the other "time".

Anyone looking for a slightly different challenge, Fieldfare, who is known to Guardian solvers as Vulcan and Imogen, sets the Spectator puzzle this week.

There’s a link to the pdf in the Spectator thread.

I am being dim with 15d. I have an answer (robotic workforce) but can’t fully parse it.

Hi Ian,
15 is saying that IF the answer was expressed in the singular then it would contain the full answer for 7.
