Ploughing my way through this, about half done - I'm puzzled by an apparent clash between 2D and 25A, both apparently the same type so no chance that one answer could be further modified before entry.

How so? 2D agrees with 1A, 14A, 17A and 21A, so I'm fairly confident of the answer.
Applying the same treatment to the answer to 25A gives a different spelling which must be the answer as it's a Scottish word I've never come across, fitting the definition. But 2D ends with a Y, which clashes.

25a has a different thematic treatment

So not a hidden clue with a letter added? Even though that gives an apparently cast-iron answer? Hmm...I must ponder this further.

OK, Quinapalus points me to a word which surprisingly meets the criteria for a different treatment.

I guess these ambiguities are bound to happen with puzzles which call for alterations - as with 31D where I had a valid but incorrect answer. Reading comments here gave me a hint about the slogan, which allowed me to check the letters involved.

Just 26A to do. I've got an answer (a word new to me, and not in my Chambers) that is defined by the first two words, but I just can't see the word to treat in the remaining wordplay (I'm wondering if my Midlands accent makes this more difficult). Any hints please?

The first 2 words are the wordplay with the 1st one modified. It's the rest of the clue which is the definition.

Thanks for this---but the penny hasn't dropped yet. Some patient online searches seem indicated!

Sorry I didn't follow up sooner. You need a homonym for "straight" (in abbreviated form) + a verb for "guys" giving a dialect word for laggards, which was unfamiliar to me.
