Making slow but steady progress, but time to call a halt for the night.

I've now completed the central section, filling in answers in the grid where they fit. Still quite a few clues to solve and one problem with a five letter answer. Lots of four and six letter clues still to solve.

I may be back tomorrow, but the weather looks good so I may garden instead.

It is at times like this I miss my friend in Sheffield who I used to share the crossword with. She died last October and now I have to do it on my own, though I do get enormous help from the forum.

Every time I try and find a version of this online with the actual clues written on it, I end up being asked to donate money to the Guardian. I'm already a subscriber so it would be nice just to have a version of the crossword I can do. Thanks Jono as usual for the interactive grid. I feel on Sunday morning with no joy as yet to finding a pdf version it's probably too late to start. But if anyone has a link I'd be very grateful to have a look at least.

Instead of dismissing this as too hard to try I had a go…..and I was hooked! Have I finished it? No! Am I sure every answer I’ve entered is correct? No! But have I enjoyed it? Yes! I can’t wait to see the reveal and I’m just in awe of how clever and inventive Maskarade is.

I'm still working on it, with gappy lists of 2x26 words solved. My grid is very tidy: near-complete central shape, blank in all 4 corners. Reading the forum leads me to one extra tool: check whether my solved 8-letter words are A or D, etc. Nice sunny day sitting in garden ought to be gardening rather than puzzling ...

Like you central grid almost complete, have made a start on corners. Enjoy the sun a bit chilly here .

finally got the 6-letter c and one n - phew...but still have what must be a 6-letter n (or m) in the SW corner

Same here, I've got a full centre leaving just the corners in the top half and some of the 4 letter words in the lower.
