A fan of Maskarade, too.

Don't have enough UKGK to handle both "Merseyside bird" (L?) and "Tyneside pagan" (N?)

Any hints, please?

Merseyside refers to an abbreviation of Liverpool. Tyneside refers to an abbreviation of the region of England where it is situated.

What an enjoyable marathon. Thanks heavens for the relatively straightforward numbered clues, which helped getting the centre solutions. The rest took some tussling. Loved the dance and not too sure what the Taoiseach would think of his clue.

Tyneside, I have all the crossers, plus start letter confirmation now. No closer.

Ilippu, the Tyneside answer is a common French phrase, including an apostrophe

"France" in the clue gives you a hint, doesn't it?

Am so stuck on my final entry that I wonder if I need to unravel the whole thing. It’s the No cheating one. I can find 4 letters for the beginning that mean no cheating & also have something to do with hoopla, and the first letter would fit the alphabetical sequence. But I can’t think of an 8-letter word that fits my other letters.

Oh. Got it, I guess. It’s something I would have thought was 2 four-letter words.
