The "stop" in the 6-lettern clue is part of a musical instrument. The "medicinal plant, once" contributes 4 letters

The six letter N word is obscure. Stop as in organ. It’s a variant spelling (not listed, changing a single letter) of a word in Chambers, which Google will confirm. Crossing off the unused pairs should indicate what it’s likely to be.

geting, 6-letter N-word? Careful....

It's an alt spelling of an organ stop. I was using the Chambers spelling for a long time until I ran into a conflict with the 2-letter bit already being used elsewhere. It finally occurred to me to check the alt spelling in onelook.

It's taking ages.

I've now got two more of the normal clues and two of the 13 letter clues, but the eleven letter clues have eluded me. I still have to read though most of the rest.

I've just got the washing in so can go back to the coalface, well at least the settee and think some more.

Wow this has taken a lot of work….the 13s and 11s are okay but as has been said the corners get tricky. Still can’t parse the Italian composer which is killing me and I’ve got a ton of four letter words (not including those I’ve vocalised whilst erasing incorrect entries!)

Like many, I am stunned by the ingenuity and sheer hard work that have gone into this. If we find it a challenge to solve, consider how long it must have taken to put together.

I agree, BuzzyBee. I know setters are paid a pittance, and my cavil about unnecessary obscurity aside, I thought this was a terrific effort. I particularly liked that the extra letter pairs device was helpful a) in sorting out orientation of answers and b) helping to tidy up loose ends when down to the stubborn final few clues
