Thanks Mack for this most helpful of hint posts. The grid is now complete. I'm still no further forward on the unclued answers but will now go off to Scottish dancing in the hope that Marie's Wedding will clear my brain. Some tough clues!

Thanks, Dodgepot - you've set my mind at rest. It was your mentioning "homophone" that made all clear... but at least I had the right answer.

I have no idea on the unclued entries but presumably you have to leave 2 cells blank so I think I've maybe finished anyway? Or am I missing something?

You have finished, sh, but to reassure you as to why, if you wrote blank in each blank cell it should make each unclued tie in with the title. Not that you need to for submission

Sadly I've had to give up on this one. I've a full grid thanks to Mack above but cannot see the PDM nor the link with the title. My congratulations to those who can!
Thanks anyway.

Thank you Dodgepot. Just didn't see that. I can sleep easy in my bed now. Confess I feel that's almost on a par with the infamous HARE

williamseal - as long as you have an empty cell at the end of the 1st unclued & at the start of the 2nd, you don't need to know what it means. But think of a 5-letter word describing your 2 unused cells & that pdm may yet occur.

Note by Admin - I deleted another word and inserted the word “cells” as I was informed that the original word made too clear a reference to the theme.

Cruncher, I agree it’s medium-sized leap, and easy to miss. I persuaded myself it was acceptable by reasoning that people probably arrived at the correct solution anyway, the blanks creating real words. The rest just dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s with regards to the title.

Now finished off the loose ends, pretty good I thought, nice idea, some tough clues. The use of the final 2 cells is a neat touch.

I can't see the justification for the definition in 1a in chambers but I note others seem happy with it so I guess I'm missing something.

Now back to trying to find those pesky 25 cells to highlight from last week that noone else seems to have struggled with but I can't make head nor tail of....

Regarding 1a, you may find that the definitions of the answer and of 'course' in the Oxford Dictionary of English, the secondary reference for all Listener puzzles, are helpful.
