son1ofrover1, in the grid, yes, in the derivative, no. That is of course if I am correct.

I think that both the definition and the wordplay for 1a are shaky. I’m not sure that Bradford’s precisely supports either. I don’t see an alternative, though.

I’m also not sure about the title, particularly “Cloth.”

I agree that the definition is a bit of a stretch, but the wordplay seems fine.

rivers - 'cloth' does define one of the unclued entries, if you 'read' the entry thematically.

Chambers supports the wordplay for 1a so it's a good clue

An odd one for me. Many of the clues were frustrating by, in my opinion, sailing very close to the edge of being unreasonable without actually toppling over. Three hours-ish in all, which suits me these days.

Not a clue how to proceed. I shall return for nudges on Monday.

A remarkable construction. Some very clever and witty clues marred only, I felt, by a few unnecessary references to obscure words e.g. 'important person'.
I still can't parse entirely to my satisfaction:
13a
24a
37a (despite the earlier post)
and I'm not sure I have the second unclued entry right, even though it adds up.

All legit BRB entries.

The first word of 13A, somewhat remarkably, gives a two letter part of the wordplay after thematic alteration.

Thanks. 'Remarkably' is right. Once again, I failed to read the dictionary closely enough: I looked up the other word. For me, this is one of those unnecessarily obscure references which detract from an otherwise excellent puzzle.
