We solved it using the meanings of 5 and 9. Don't understand meta interpretation of 'this'

"This" as in "what are you doing?"

Geeker@50, hehe, no secret, yes I’m “Jay” over there… and here on special occasions (as the search box will reveal) ;-)

The meta interpretation is to consider what the whole thing is, the name of the puzzle itself. It's very difficult to explain further without spoilering but the answer is very much staring us all in the face!

snowwhite: I’m afraid I don’t understand your way of getting to the theme - do you mean that you used the solutions to 5 and 9? I can just about see how the might work, but I’m pretty sure it’s not what Paul had in mind.

I'm with roof @47. I can't find a homophone of take at all.

Less than half done and I'm really struggling. I have the theme but only one in and one unparsed.

Can anyone help with 20a. I think I understand the clue and still can't get it. Also 22d is bothering me.

Cheers all

Philo: ‘take’ in the criminal sense - does that help?
Both 20 and, especially, 22 are pretty obscure theme words, at least for me. 20 parses as 3 letters inserted in a word for ‘cuddle’; 22 parses as (3,3), the cocktail coming first.

Thanks rogissimo

That's what I thought for 20. I think I see 22, but I can't get the homophone.
