I have a full grid and treated all nine answers correctly. However I cannot work out the last of the eight words and would appreciate a hint as it’s very annoying. Thanks

qesue - hard to give a hint without knowing more of which ones you have - however there is a missing word in one of the early clues, and the instruction would still work as a sentence without it. the other word in that category is around the middle of the down clues.

The first word I have is 3 letters and starts with a letter towards the end of the alphabet. The 7th word is 6 letters beginning with a D

Each of the words in the instruction is composed of two parts…

that first word you have sounds like the second word. you need to find an equal length word in an early clue, which go together to form the first word of the instruction.

I too cannot find an abbreviation to fill in the missing cell. The nature of the word leaves me thinking it must be one letter in particular buyt I don't see how the direction is clued

The abbreviations are in the answer not in the entry

I think I have plumped for the correct letter for the unchecked cell, but as I read it only one of the abbreviations is in the answer and one is in the entry.
