Brendan - many thanks - your hints are brilliant - very helpful without giving the actual answer. They are also excellent clues - typical of Kea.

Has anybody any thoughts on the other two clues (28 across & 1 down)? Or any very helpful hints about how an answer continues after reaching the bottom row?

I want to get this one finished because 4745 is looking interesting!

Thepost - they’re both thematic

28 - initial for book and a word for ending a series

1 - unusual abbrev for bloody fool holding a “pile” and then “in” and “tree”

No down entry goes past the bottom row.

I now have a full grid. I have known from much earlier what the theme was and what the four word message is. I have just got to suss out how to find it now!

My brain hurts (and I am suffering from a heavy cold as well at the moment).
