Thanks sealionsteve. Realised it was yet another anagram when I had a closer look.

I usually have more trouble solving a Maskarade puzzle than that. I know its annoying when people say that was easy when they may not find it so. Still a bit of a doddle!

Didn't feel like a cryptic crossword, and felt it was unfair to those outside UK. Much less enjoyable than usual I thought.

Wow! Have to say we loved this one.
Needed Google help for some of the theme answers but finished it in an hour - unheard of for us! We can sometimes finish a Paul, but it usually takes a few hours.
COD 11a for me.

That was too easy for a Prize crossword for anyone in the UK. Needed Google to check 7d but the rest was a write in.

For me this was by far the easiest Guardian prize crossword puzzle I have ever seen. Many of the clues were so easy that I just wrote them in as soon as I had read them, and none of them took a lot of effort to work out what the answers had to be. However, there is just one bit on which I am stuck. The answer to 16a is obvious, but I can't understand why. Any gentle hints?

I was paused a bit on the second word in 16a for a while too. It's a homophone of "like a type of wood" (kind of wooden).

Xwordfan, a hint is one thing, but completely explaining the clue is another.
