Re 2d, yes that makes sense. The 'at length' in the clue would mean 'the full version' of NNE. That, plus the (5-5-4) in brackets and it's a pretty easy clue.

14 Lo, see, S, son and At Home is the party (very dated, no-one has those now!). Loathsome, disgusting.

4 Cossack, belligerent Russian. Co's, Officer's (commanding officer's) and Sack, wine (like tent, it's a wine you normally only see in crosswords)
