Jigjag, lovely to hear you were back in the market cafe. You should have opted for the traditional breakfast (the five/seven/nine items breakfast) and a cup of tea,. That would have saved any language problems. I avoid all the Italian-inspired items in cafes and restaurants. I know of the difficulties with singulars and plurals - and I'm afraid I would feel far too affected to ever order something like 'chicken and morel raviolo'. Since an Italian friend burst out laughing when I ordered a latte in an 'Italian' cafe 25 years ago, I have stuck with tea. Flavia couldn't understand whyI was ordering milk, she didn't believe me when I said was milky coffee.

The topicality of crossword clues - in the Times - struck me again today. Who would have thought that 'PM on TV' referred to something over 30 years old?

Yes I too have had problems with shops not understanding metres (and parts thereof). Never any difficulties with yards, feet and inches.

I didn't mind the market cafe "correcting" me, but I get irritated with the staff of "so-called Italian restaurants" not understanding Italian grammar. I am sorry that you have missed the delights of italian cuisine because staff will not understand your correct orders. I have never ordered a latte, as like your friend, I thought it was milk, nor any of the other variations on offer. I just ask for Americano, which everyone seems to understand.
I had not been to the market for months, but hope to visit it a few times before Christmas. I will take your advice and order breakfast next time. What could be simpler!

Good to hear from you - I`m looking forward to receiving an invitation to the `Jigjag Executive Suite` when you move into the new ground!

I dread being asked what sort of coffee I want - I would probably ask for a big `un. I`ve had no trouble ordering beer on my travels although drinking it does sometimes demand some courage (cue for a joke?)

The coffee stall in Blackburn market used to offer a cappuccino, or, as a larger alternative, a mugaccino....

I like the sound of a mugaccino! I`ve only been to Blackburn for the footy - the Ground is impressive! Real Ale pubs thin on the ground - had refreshments in the Wetherspoons before and after the game!

You will be most welcome in my suite, only beer and tea will be served, as the coffee variations will baffle fans. I have seen some non-league football this season - no trouble getting a beer (sometimes yes, Courage!).

I suppose if they had offered a smaller one, it would have been a cappuccinino,.....and that's a mouthful, literally!
I have only visited Blackburn once, for a Rovers v Blackpool cup-tie a few years ago. I found myself joining a joint protest against both owners. There was a nice cafe opposite the ground, Betty's I think.

It was good of you to remind me recently that I should visit the market café for breakfast. I arrived there about noon on Saturday, and after all the previous problems with multi-item breakfasts and poached eggs, I decided to order something simple.
“An All-Day breakfast please”.
“You’re too late,” replied Cassie the waitress, in her usual unhelpful manner, “Breakfast finishes at 11 o’clock. You’ll have to have lunch.”
“But surely All-day means you serve it all day, at least while you are open.”
“No, an All-Day breakfast is a set breakfast with no swaps.”
A glance at the lunch menu revealed that brunch was available.
“What is included in the brunch please?” I asked.
“Sausage, bacon, egg, beans, tomato, black pudding and chips”, she replied.
“In that case, I will have a brunch without chips”, I said.
“I don’t know if that’s allowed, but I suppose it must be”, she grumbled.
It was an excellent breakfast.

Thanks, eggscellent indeed and England too! Enjoying it so far but not sure if I can manage 3 matches a day for too long.
