I’m having trouble justifying 5 across. The clue surely leads to stingray but that word doesn’t seem to have anything thematic in it. Is the answer stingy? If it is then the clue is ambiguous.

Unclued - 5 across does have a thematic element.

Found it! That was a thematic item I have never heard of.

PDM finally on the work and author gives me the will to soldier on with this - but I have a long way to go.

I have a full grid and I think I have everything parsed apart from 31 down. ( Cult's liquor....). I can make little sense of it but assume that the first word is modified. The word I have appears to mean endure or bear (Scot).
