I agree, lumen - many of the clues were really imaginative.

I’m still really struggling to get the 24 letters. I think I have about 17, but huge uncertainty! Any guidance welcome. Eg does it end in EWNS?

Also, I still don’t get the parsing if 45, 46ac

Afraid it does not end in EWNS - indeed none of them correctly placed.

46a builds on 45a if that helps.

*I've filled in the grid, apart from 14dn and 24, but I'm missing 3 moved word. More worryingly, the initial letters of moved words that I *have* identified don't seem to make anything meanful, apart from 'THE', so still no sentence and the novel from which it comes.
* Am I right in thinking that every other across clue from 7 to 44 has a moved word?
*Also my parsing of 13ac leads me to believe that the last word is redundant.
A little guidance would be appreciated.

jig73:

The way I parsed 13:

Fathoms of God = FOG. (initial letters)

Hope reduced in half with two letter for fleet giving Siren.

I have 10 first letters from across clues and 13 from down clues.

I am missing one which may be from 21a or 29a.

Down clues I have (3, 10) with 10 letter word hyphenated, I think.

I need help on 21a, 18d and 29a. to complete the grid.

Sunray.

21 ac. The answer is an old coin. Then trim ‘that’. ‘Pin’ means ‘hold’ - another word for edges.
18dn. Abbreviations for second, American and plan followed by ‘again’ voided gives you another name for ‘Brazil’ - see BRB.
29ac. The answer means ‘signs for a round’ - look for alternative meanings. Think of a famous Abe, then follow him by his last.

Thanks for your parsing - a little overly explicit perhaps... That's exactly what I had for the first part (but they are abbreviations, not the first letters). However, I moved 'hope', not 'destroyed'.

I had SEWN as the last four letters of moved words, so your last reply was very helpful for me to sort decipher the sentence.
