Got there in the end, made the grid changes etc but don't understand the parsing of 25a. Any hints?

Doh! Thanks drxx....I even had the word that moves and fixated on trying to remove the first letter.

The two workplays I dont get (although I am sure I have the correct entry) are 1a and 8d. Both clues have no moving word.

1a Wally losing it gives first three letters, but how does 'empty' give the final four?

8d Emirates ditch is the definition. I dont get the first three letters, but the last two indicate dry

I know that the wordplay in this puzzle is very meticulous so I expect that I am missing something clever.

Incidentally, is the only way to post in this Forum to reply to the last (or a previous) post? What is you are not really replying to anything, but just asking a question? Why can't this be done independently of any existing post?

According to Chambers, 'empty' gives the final 5 after TW(it).

I think 8 is &lit, foinaven - last letters of the first 3 words + 'dry'.
