Interesting Brendan.

I thought that 2d was a three letter foreign word for water inside a word for pair. The last two letters are an abbreviation of the end of the place Ipswich play.

Looks like you can parse that in multiple ways!

My mistake - I'm sure yours is the correct parse, as it accounts for the R(oa)D part of Ipswich's ground/arena, plus it utilises the "carrying" part of the clue.

Crossword should be fun and even those who can’t get you should have that ‘oh of course’ moment when you see the answer.
I didn’t enjoy this crossword, sorry.
Maybe more fun than ‘cleverness’ needed.
