Very tough. Have filled in all the blanks but with many a blank expression. Cannot parse 19d, 5d, 18ac. Weirdly enjoyable though, despite the frustration.

19d and 18a both contain cricketing references ;-) cricket I can do , I always struggle with the football references!

Yes, very difficult. I haven't parsed all of 8,17 - what's the significance of the "2,4,6..."? What's the first letter subtracted in 5d? What's the non-cricket part of 19d?

Isn't 15a a horrible word (and clue, for that matter!)?

the 2 4 6 are a type of number, I agree with you about 15a too!

chrise - you need to split 8 into two words (4,9), then put in one letter

2,4,6 etc are a specific type of number
15a couldn’t agree more, I had the last letter wrong to begin with
5d 5 letter word for put, with first letter removed, then 5 letter word for off

5 - first letter is first letter
