In 16d the answer is 7 letters but there are only 6 cells. The preamble states that several answers are too short, but in this instance it appears to be too long - what is going on?

The preamble says that some cells contain multiple letters to be entered vertically.

Hi Cockie, I saw that but it says those that contain multiple letters are unclued entries, but 16d is clued.

It's ok, I get it, one of the across clues is unclued. Thanks.

I'm sorted apart from understanding the relevance of the unclued entry in the bottom row. There's only one possibility but I'm buggered if I can see the thematic connection!

Finally struggled over the finishing line - I thought this was pretty brutal. I do these on a spreadsheet, and the short unclued answer had me stumped for ages until I entered the multiple letters vertically. Note to self - Must pay attention to the preamble more!!

Scrabbled my way through this and getting close to the end but 11a is defying decryption/Chambers etc. I have a strange collection of letters eg it appears to end t?i Help gratefully received as it should unlock two more of the last 3. Thanks.
