11 A - a word I'd never seen before. Your letters are correct. I can't think of a clue, - so Togliatti, a Russian city.

Thanks Malone, I even had the og and ia and couldn't crack it! Still got a few knotty bits. I think I know what the added letters near the centre should be but fitting them in with eg 19a is causing some head scratching.

No problem, happy to have the answer for that one! I now have a problem with 7d and 18a. I'm 99% sure I have the 5 letters for 18a but that seems to make 7d end in v but 7d looks like a computer (which doesn't seem to fit the clue at all).

Also, do the 6 extra letters say something? I was expecting it to refer to the pocket money where the subject of the first unclued entry could have been found.

7 D DOES end in 'v' - another odd word! The first half of your suggestion/thought is correct.

The 6 letters do spell out something, if read in the correct order...

18 is a fairly common 'priest' and 'originally nearing' is the usual stuff.

The hints got me there (:o) and I think I see the way of reading the six letters but am now pondering the link with the unclued entries as more associated with a spear than an illumination. Perhaps I've been focusing on the wrong countries pocket money...

Granama, glad you got finished. I didn't find the ending hugely satisfying. Still, I did manage to see direct links - the 6-letters with one unclued entry, the highlighting with the other.

If you google the highlighted surname together with the unclued entry at the bottom, you should see how everything is thematically connected.
