Grunger, I'm glad you appreciated our efforts to try to have you elected. I'm relieved there were no milkshakes being chucked around - literally.

Hi malone
"40% of value" presumably means only 2 letters (I don't like this construction - Qaos in the Guardian is overfond of it), but I can't see where the rest comes from - I would need some crossers, I think!

ChrisE, I might have misremembered - I thought the erroneous use of this word annoyed you. I'll give the crossing letters....

You were very close but there is one you didn't get, so a rather easy clue for you:

Spice missing, setter having run out, eats at home (6)

Thanks for all your help with the election campaign. I am afraid that having 2 policies, as per Labour and Tories, confused the electorate. The Parties with one policy did very well. I have promised my followers that I will reflect on this before issuing a statement. Btw the bakery was closed today so I will have to follow-up the pie fiasco tomorrow.

I spoke to Gotte Bunn, Head Baker this morning. You were right. My order was taken down as 2 Gross pies, but passed through to the pie Department as 2 grass pies. The bakers apparently use terms like Kate and Sidney instead of the correct ingredients, and a Grass pie to them meant Leek and Brocolli which is what they sent. They have offered free pies for the next event. I suppose Spooner would have enjoyed working in a bakery but I am not keen on them (Spoonerisms not pies)

Thanks for your clue, which I solved, and I have just read that the "girls" are on tour again, but one short. It seems that it is not going well. Were you offered the chance to join them?

Thanks for your election and pie news - debacles all round (including the 'Brocolli'!) Still, it was very kind of you to take on the task of catering.

As the last event wasn't quite the scintillating evening we'd hoped for, I've been looking into staging the event elsewhere. I'm considering various options - London, Edinburgh, the Isle of People (renamed in view of political correctness).

I called upon a young, tech-savvy neighbour as I hoped he'd advise me on the best way to more forward in this age of social media, digital media etc. He gave me lots of information - all about chirps and blogs and vlogs, but I understood very little. He mentioned Twittering and advised me to get a 'hashtag'. I searched through all the ready meals in M and S, but the corned beef meal had various cooking instructions, serving suggestions and so on, but no tags as such. Nil desperandum, as we pedants say....

My sincere apologies for the spelling error. The annoying thing is that I looked up Broccoli to make sure I got it right - then got it wrong! I would love to go to your next event, though I am sure you would prefer alternative catering arrangements. The Kettering catering is excellent if you decide to go there.

I am afraid I don't engage in social media but hope you get your corned beef hashtag. Bully for you!
