I am now all ready for my flight and have had some time to look at this again. Meursault, I have attractively in column 1 starting at row 1 and pyrotechnist in column 13. I am not completely sure this is correct but I can make it fit with the requirement for the 8,5s not overlapping with the 12s.

So far I have managed to hang a few more answers in the NW corner as s_pugh alluded to....time will tell.

So if Vying hangs off Attractively, and Owing intersects with Vying : what across answers can fit between Attractively and Owing ? Maybe Eten, but for the 3 rows above are all the O,W and I unches ?

Are the 12-letter words in columns 5 & 9 ? If not, where ?

Meursault, I'm still working with attractively in column one having chinwag coming off it which enables owing and vying to link. I have aga saga at 1 ac, so far it seems to be hanging together.... but I could be wrong.

Hi Planks, I didn't have Chinwag solved, though I thought it might be the answer. Yes, that would fit there. So at about the same time as you posted that, I have Aga Saga as 1A, Grainage hanging off the second G, and Tentigo meeting the second G of Grainage. You have been able to help when all the clever clogs couldn't. Thanks very much.
