Cant(one seater) oast

Apologies for slow reply, cockie. Thanks for confirming that was the position -- I thought it had to be, but I was trying to shoe-horn the wrong word in.

Thanks very much Djawfulc, I was dividing the phrase all wrong.

Can anybody help me with the top right hand corner a little hint for 8 or 10 down would be much appreciated.

8 dn is an Italian word for magistrate beginning with an omitted "p". 10dn also starts with an omitted "p" and means "of the foot" (the first actually entered letter means "online").

Can I take it that 6 and 39 each provide halves of a relevant date? I have all the answers but cannot see the division in 21, and would appreciate help for the wordplay to 8 and 9. I thought Inwind at 12 gave an amusing if improbable alternative to the right answer!
