If UHLAN is right for 30. NAPHTHA doesn't have either an extra word in its clue or a misprint in its first letter, Can that be right?

...and the same applies to LEERIES at 35 - no extra word, no misprint at first letter. Am I barking up a wrong tree?

Escuan, NAPHTHA & LEERIES are type 1 answers with just the first letter replaced. UHLAN is a type 2 answer and is coded. All becomes clear when you have enough of the misprints and their replacements. Consider why there are 26 type 1 clues.

How are the misprints entered? For example I have a clash at 8 with the letters L/T and at 14 with V/P. Where now?

Aspria, 6a is entered with a misprinted initial letter, so the last letter is unchanged. That gives you the misprint for 8d. in the case of cell 14 two answers begin in that cell so both letters must change. The letter that is entered will become clear after further solving, but it may not become clear fro some time, depending how far you have got with the rest.

There's a lot of hard work involved in this, and if anything it gets harder towards the end. My last answer resolved two outstanding issues, but what a tough finish to a tough puzzle.

It's a bit odd that the real title doesn't apply to the solution grid.

Regarding ECOD vs EGAD - there is nothing in Chambers that justifies E=GREEN, so E+GAD just does not work.

Gentle clue for 6d: the answer is an obscure spelling of a well-known synonym for tilt as a noun,

14d: a mite is an arachnid, so the answer ends in TER

6d, the first word is an extra, and the second is the definition.

14d, think poetry.
