Ignore me- see my mistake

I have it all except 9 across for which I'm missing 1 letter. I know what the answer might be but can't reconcile the wordplay. Can someone help, please.

"old man" refers to an old word for a chess piece (man), 3 letters. It goes inside a 3-letter word meaning "spree". Hope this helps....
