Last 2. Everything seems to fit in well except these two.
X and C words. Any hints? Thanks.

I've tentatively entered 'C' at 28ac since (assuming I've solved it correctly) the 2nd and last letters fit what I have going down - but not 100% confident as I haven't got 20d which I think begins with 'X' or 'T'
However, although I'm confident my two 4 letter answers are correct I can't decide which goes where as both have the same 2nd letter which is the only crosser I have.
I have 'F' at 11ac - is this correct? Any help much appreciated. I'm sure I've gone wrong somewhere!

C: If you read the clue for this as a whole, it very accurately describes the definition.
X: Is an anagram. It's not in my version of Chambers, though.

I thought the x word was an anagram but couldn't find it anywhere. Will keep on looking. Thanks

F word is 8 across, or the first across answer

I still can't make sense of the "R" word, despite the earlier discussions. There seems to be one obvious solution, synonymous of the first part of the clue, but I have no idea what links the letter L with the last five letters of the solution. I read about railway in one of the discussions above. But I'm still lost.

Also (and that's me being picky), I've got the (10,5) "B" solution, the anagram is working well (so why would I complain). I just don't know what the "being H" of the clue refers to. To me, it seems superfluous. Any thoughts?

My taking is that the answer that starts with 'L' (one of the 4 letter words) is a synonym for the last 5 letters of the 'R' word.
Agree with you about 'B' - unless there's more to it that I can't see or want to see. ,-)

"R" word : (slapping forehead) now I get it. Thank you.

"B" word : just like you, still can't make sense. And this time, I don't think the "H" is the "H" word in the grid. I thought it could be the musical note H (equivalent of B), but our solution is in C minor...
