Hello, Pigale!
Yes, Le Tour is on it's way!
Enormous crowds out for it, and the weather has brightened.
That is a lovely story about Sainte-Mere-L'Eglise.
You have good memories of your visit.
The name rings a bell with me, yet I am not sure why.
I must have read something about it years ago.
I know more about the Great War!

Hi Rusty,

It was in Sainte Mere L'Eglise that a US paratrooper, John Steele, landed on the Church Spire and pretended to be dead for two hours, before the Germans eventually noticed him and made him prisoner. (I think he escaped later) - He was portrayed in film 'The Longest Day'.

Sainte Mere played an important part during the landings because of its location.

Thank you, Pigale,
The name was familiar to me but I was not sure why.
I knew it had to do with the war, though.

Good to see a British cyclist win this stage Rusty - An American and a French for so many kilometres, then a British win, the commemoration is complete!

Hello, Pigale!
Yes, I thought Cav's best days were behind him!
That's the first time he has beaten Kittel in a sprint.
I saw the dummy caught on the church tower by his parachute!
That is what you told me about earlier!
The commentators even knew his name, which surprised me.
It was a fine day in France, too, and I am glad I saw Utah Beach.
Maybe you should send some of your weather to Wimbledon?
I have lost track of what is going on there with all the stopping and starting!

Hi, Rusty!
We have had a nice day! The school fete went well and was very well organised , with emphasis being on the children's enjoyment, rather than a need to make as much money as possible , which was lovely to see.
The side- shows and various activities were not priced too high........and all the kids had a really good time, judging by the expressions on their little faces.
We took a little boy with us.....but came home with a young tiger......BB had his face painted! He was thrilled!
Now.......whatever has been happening to the tennis?!
I've been chasing results since I returned home.......I gather it has been raining again in Wimbledon!
I see that Novak lost out to Sam Querry? Was it a good match - did you see anything of it?
Or have you been watching cycling all the day?
So what of Le Tour? and Utah beach?

Hello, Pigale!
I was wondering how you were and what had happened to you!
You will be happy now that there is cycling to watch - I know that you do not like tennis!
What has happened to the fledglings in your garden? have they flown the nest yet? or is it still too soon?

Good evening, Elle!
That was a nice outing you had.
I watched the cycling all day.
It was pretty uneventful.
Just a few crashes.
Contador came down but they patched him up and he finished.
The commentators did their best to explain about the beaches and the landings.
One village had a dummy paratrooper dangling from a church spire that he landed on.
Pigale had told me earlier about it.
But, it is a nice part of the world.
Plenty old abbeys etc to see as the Tour made its way through Normandy.
I saw no tennis.
Novak is out apparently. That is a big surprise.
I see the European Athletics Championships are on Eurosport starting Wednesday, but nothing on BBC?
i'd have thought they would cover it.

Good evening, Rusty!
I am glad you had a good day.
I wondered whether you would learn much about the Normandy landings.
That is interesting about the parachutist trapped on the church spire - I hadn't known that.
If you are interested - and not too overcome by viewing cycling all day! - Nick Kyrgios has just started play now against Feliciano Lopez.
Lucie Safarova won her match earlier.
(You are doing well!)
I was sorry to see 'Genie Bouchard ( and the infamous nightie) lose... I like her.
I wonder how Novak's demise will affect the draw?
I haven't seen it - but some player is surely going to get an "easy ride" now?
I guess the BBC are doing all out coverage on the tennis......maybe that is why they are not covering the European Athletics?
(Can you hear my gnashing of teeth?)

Hello Elle,

I obviously forgot to mention it but my little birds flew off about a month ago ! It does not take that long for tits; If I am lucky, there might be another bird laying eggs during the Summer ... I think they mate more than once in the course of Summer.

Lovely to know your afternoon went well and that BB enjoyed himself - He will look forward to going to school!

Rusty,
No conclusion to the Kyrgios/Lopez match. Poor light put an end to today's play.
One set all.
